Brenda’s Weight Loss Journey: A Story of Discipline, Commitment, and Female Power”

Brenda’s Weight Loss Journey: A Story of Discipline, Commitment, and Female Power”

One of the biggest insecurities of the contemporary woman is weight. We are shamed and judged, and bullied for being slim, thick, and everything in between. The worst part is that we shame and judge ourselves, too. It is also unfortunate that most women develop a victim mentality, which makes it quite hard to lose weight. This was Brend’s story for the past four years until the day she says, she decided enough was enough.

“I love taking pictures, and no matter which angle I used, I couldn’t take a picture I was proud of. Then, I knew I needed to do something. “

As such, Brenda stepped into 2025 fixated on one main goal: to lose weight. Last year, around July, she had enrolled in a gym but did not stick with it. This year, she joined a gym and upheld the drive and discipline she needed to regain her confidence. After two months of consistent workouts combining both cardio and strength training, Brenda had not only started to see a physical change, but she could feel a significant change in her mental health, self-confidence, and general well-being. She was significantly happier, and she loved it!

Driven to better herself even more, Brenda decided to do more than work out—she changed her entire lifestyle. Her approach to food became smarter and more intentional. She adopted a high-protein, calorie-deficient diet, carefully curating her meals to support her fitness goals.

A High-Protein No-Carb Diet

And she didn’t stop there. She also incorporated regular walks, either in the peaceful quiet of her neighborhood or even going the extra mile of going to take nature walks in Karura forest just for that added pizzazz. The beauty of life is that these walks also became her moments of self-connection and reflection.

As time went by, Brenda described her experiences as walking into a new life. A life where she has control of her body, and where she is more in love with herself than she has ever been. She has lost more than 10kgs so far, and she couldn’t be happier. Just last month, she was thrilled to actively participate in her son’s school sports day, something that felt out of reach just a few months ago.

Nonetheless, she acknowledges the struggle she has gone through to get through this journey and repeatedly says,

“May I never forget the sacrifices I went through to lose weight.”

The interesting thing is that whenever she posts her before pictures, she captions them saying she does not recognize the girl in those pictures. I asked her why, and she told me that she honestly feels she is a new woman, very different from the one she used to be, not just in size, but in her overall approach to life. Now, she knows that she can achieve whatever she puts her mind to.

Brenda’s story is not just about her weight loss journey; it’s about how she took back control of her life through discipline, focus, and lifestyle change. To every woman reading this struggling with weight, you don’t need to be perfect; you just need to be committed.

And for anyone who is not struggling with weight just yet, Brenda says,

“Please don’t get fat, losing weight is very hard and painful.”

Because, according to her, as hard as it is to admit, she knows and admits that she let herself get where she was, and it was not until she took accountability that she was able to take back her power.
